Question:

What are 2nd DUI consequences in Utah?

Answer:

The state of Utah imposes legal penalties, much like any other state, for any DUI offenses. For your first offense, for example, you’re looking at a fine of at least $700 dollars, plus a two-night stay in jail. As you accrue more DUI charges, you face harsher penalties. In particular, the 2nd dui consequences Utah include

  • A citation of at least $800 dollars, depending on the severity of your offense (you could be fined much more if you caused an accident).
  • Jail time of at least 10 days (with work release in some cases). The amount of jail time also depends on your offense (penalties increase if you injured anyone, including yourself).
  • House arrest, including the cost of the electronic monitoring device being added to your court costs.
  • If your offense occurs within 10 years after your first, chances are you’ll also have to have an IID (Ignition Interlock Device) installed on your vehicle, which requires you to pass a breath test before your ignition will engage. This device could be required in your vehicle for a period of 3 years and you will have to pay for it.
  • Your license can also be suspended for no less than 2 years, and you may also be required to purchase SR-22 insurance in order to regain your driving privileges once your suspension is over.
  • Required participation in a registered alcohol/driving assessment course, with a certificate of completion in order to obtain your license.

If you are arrested for your second Utah DUI, it is in your best interests to consult with a lawyer as soon as possible to find out what options you have.
