Question:

What will happen if I do not pay for a speeding ticket in Georgia?

Answer:

For a super speeder ticket in Georgia, you are expected to pay anywhere between $145 and $325. Violating the super speeder traffic law in Georgia and expecting not to pay for the ticket can land you up in jail for several days. Moreover, your driving license privileges will suffer and insurance premium increase.

In Georgia, there are no deferment options or traffic schools to help you avoid the super speeder ticket charges. Ultimately, if you do not want to pay for the speeding tickets, there are four options for you:

  • You ask for an arraignment. You ask for a plea but also pay the fine first. If the plea is accepted, the fine amount will be refunded later.
  • If the arresting officer is not present at the time of the hearing for several consecutive days then the super speeder ticket stands cancelled.
  • You can plead for NOLO every 5 years. However, if you have a comparatively clean driving record then pleading for NOLO makes no sense. The only advantage with NOLO is that the driving record shows the super speeder violation conviction, minus the points.
  • If the speed violation has been below 14 mph then your insurance premiums won’t suffer and the super speeder ticket will also not be posted to your records.

However, you stand the risk of license suspension if you are below 21 years of age.

With effect from January 01, 2010 the Georgia super speeder laws have been made more stringent and harsher. Take note when you commit any violation and search for the best options available to deal with it.
